Our Programs

PROGRAMS

The Lethbridge Amateur Speed Skating Association follows Speed Skating Canada's Long Term Participant and Athlete Development (LTPAD) Model. Programs are offered at the City of Lethbridge Labor Club Ice Centre (2020 18 Ave N) annually from October to March.

Anyone interested in the sport of speed skating is welcome! Basic balance and movement on skates is an asset for beginners of any age! 

​

The Lethbridge Amateur Speed Skating Association has four main program categories:  
 

  • Learn to Speed Skate

  • Novice

  • Advanced

  • Masters

 

The following stages set out by Speed Skate Canada are incorporated in those four categories.  

​

  • Active Start (0-6 years)

  • FUNdamentals (girls 6-8, boys 6-9)

  • Learning to Training (girls 8-11, boys 9-12)

  • Training to Train (girls 11-15, boys 12-16)

  • Learning to Compete (girls 15-17, boys 16-18)

  • Training to Compete (girls 17-21, boys 18-21)

  • Learning to Win (short track 21-23+, long track 25+)

  • Training to Win (short track 23+, long track 25+)

  • Active for Life (any age participant)

Coaching staff have completed the National Coaching Certification Program with Speed Skate Canada.

Association Membership

The Lethbridge Amateur Speed Skating Association is affiliated with the Alberta Speed Skating Association and Speed Skating Canada and provides coaching, training and racing opportunities for all members in a fun and supportive atmosphere. 

​

Skaters can choose to compete in the the local Bridge Bolt invitational and in meets offered by other clubs or can simply skate for fun!

​

In addition to regular programming, the Lethbridge Amateur Speed Skating Association offers two Learn to Speed Skate sessions each year:  October to December and January to March.

​

LSSA hosts two intra-club meets per year and also hosts one annual invitational competition that attracts clubs from across western and northern Canada. 

​

Association membership is included with program registration, provincial and national skating fees. Fees vary based on the chosen program.
